Walk in Walk out – Our day-case procedure

What makes it possible?

Firstly, you need to understand that here at London Lipo Institute, we provide an advanced form of liposuction called liposculpture which allows us to provide a day-care procedure where clients can ‘walk in walk out’ the same day of their surgery. Advanced liposculpture is slightly different from the traditional liposuction because our surgeons employ tumescent local anaesthesia instead of general anaesthesia.

What is tumescent local anaesthesia?

Tumescent anaesthesia is regarded as the safest form of anaesthesia for a liposculpture procedure. A large volume of diluted local anaesthesia is injected into the fat which numbs the area to be operated on imposing very little or no discomfort throughout the procedure. You are completely awake and you are also able to communicate with the surgeons. Other benefits are:

Allows quick recovery
Able to adjust the position
Procedure is fast

How does it contribute to the ‘walk in walk out’ facility?

Tumescent anaesthesia does not carry the risk of nausea or vomiting like general anaesthesia does and results in blood loss of fewer than 20 ml on average. Use of tumescent anaesthesia also means that the client is pain-free for the first 18-24 hours. Because there are minimal complications associated with this procedure, clients are able to walk in walk out of the clinic after just a few hours of rest.

Are there any side effects to tumescent anaesthesia?

Unfortunately, yes. There are some common side effects of a local anaesthetic, which include redness and swelling or bruising, and in very rare instances allergic reactions will occur. You may also feel the need to rest after the procedure for a couple of hours. Here at London Lipo Institute, we take you to the recovery room after your surgery is complete to allow you to rest until you are ready to leave. Most patients are able to leave the clinic after 30-60 minutes. We also offer a free one night stay at our brand new hotel as well as provide transport to give you complete rest and relaxation after your surgery.
